Fall Classes

Coming This Fall 2016

Tootie’s Education Empire will be hosting a 4-week fall series of workshops at the Ripley Grier Studios in Manhattan, NY.  This 4-week series will be held for 4 successive Saturdays on September 24, October 1, October 8, and October 15. If you are interested in classes for children or adults, fill out the form below. Registration for classes will begin in late August.

 

Course Descriptions

Riffing with Bri Bri

What is a riff? Vocal recording artist of Livre, Briana Turner, will guide participants into a journey of the voice that explores the skill of riffing. Students will learn how to embellish a basic melody using familiar popular songs while learning basic breathing and placement of the voice. Beginning and intermediate singers are welcome.

Video Editing 101 for Beginners

Yaya’s Digi Designs collaborates with Tootie’s Education Empire to assist aspiring videographers in their plight to create works of visual art. Whether you ultimately desire to start a cutting edge vlog or a short film, you will learn the basic tools of Premiere to get you well on your way. This course requires participants to bring a laptop loaded with Premiere.

Act Like Nobody is Watching

Students will understand the importance of “Being believable and being in the moment” when acting on stage. They will also learn strategies to discipline the body, explore basic improvisational skills, and learn to work as part of an acting ensemble. This basic drama course will be facilitated by Angela Hall aka Ms. Tootie. Beginners are welcome.

Exploring the Djembe: Playing an African Drum for Beginners

Students will learn the history of the Djembe and become familiar with its basic construction. Students will also create African drumming rhythms while building a sense of community.  If you ever wanted to learn how to play an African drum, this course is for you. Drums will be provided.

Improvisation on the Keyboard

This class will be taught by Stephen “Sunny” Hall who has toured the U.S. and Europe playing for a variety of artists from Common to Mary Mary. Participants of this class will learn basic strategies for embellishing a melody. Students will participate in a jam session by the workshop’s end to put skills learned into practice. Participants interested in this course should already have some basic keyboard experience with playing chords. All students must bring their own keyboard.

Art for Beginners

Have you always wanted to learn how to draw? Beginner students will work from still life setups to hone in on artistic ability. Sketch books and tools will be provided to all budding artists that sign up for this course.
